Threading / Eyebrow Threading

Threading is the facial hair removal of choice in Asia & the Middle East. A strong cotton thread is twisted and rolled along the surface of the skin, entwining the hairs in the thread, which are then lifted out from the follicle with an even tension. It is a highly effective method for removing facial hair & creating defined eyebrows.

Threading is the perfect facial hair removal alternative to waxing, depilatory creams, tweezing or laser. Irritation & skin rashes are avoided as the top layer of skin is not stripped off and as threading is a natural process it is highly recommended for sensitive skin.

Eyebrow Threading, Facial Threading , Tinting & Waxing

A recent Q&A with Nialla Latif, master threader at Afreen Fashion & Beauty located at Constitution Street, Leith Walk, Edinburgh.

What treatments do you offer at AfreenFashions?

We specialise in threading, specifically eyebrow threading and facial threading and we also offer a limited waxing service though we do not offer any facial waxing.

Why is this?

Lot's of reasons but mainly you get a neater finish with threading, threaded hair are removed from the root unlike with waxing where there is a higher chance of the hear breaking leaving the folicle intact, This leads to uneven growth, ingrown hair and a stubble effect. Also with waxing there is a chance of burning the skin and irritation and allergic reactions.

How is it Done, Threading?

Using a cotton thread, a loop is placed against the surface of the skin, hair is lifted out from it's roots very much like plucking/tweezing, but in a more effective and precise manner. If i am being honest, it's an art and not everyone can do it, i have seen 2 hour courses after which you get a certificate saying you are a threader... my reaction !!!!!! REALLY!!!!!!

Is it Precise?

As long as the threader is experienced (Nialla Latif; owner and Master Threader at Afreen Fashion & Beauty has over 15 years of experience,) threading creates the most precise eyebrow shape whereby one or multiple hairs can be removed. It can even remove any in-grown hairs or stubbles. Also hair will take longer to grow back as it is removed from the root

Is it Safe?

Very! Threading is the best and safest way of removing hair. There's no hot wax to burn the skin and as it's natural it is perfect for sensitive skin. Skin will get red after treatment but this clears up after a few minutes.

What is Eyebow Tinting?

It's very similar to getting your hair dyed, a tint is placed on your eyebrows to give them a deeper, darker colour. This allows the brows to look fuller and more defined. It also means not wearing eye pencil/liner.

HD Brows?

(Laughs Loudly....) Please!! In my humble opinion.. it's a gimmick,. i've seen salons charging upto £45 for HD brows. I believe a proper eyebrow threading treatment and a eyebrow tint will give the same if not better results and for only £10 at either Afreen Fashions or Nylla Fashions, you can keep your brows looking perfect and defined for longer.

How Long Does Tinting Last?

Tinting usually lasts arounds 3 to 4 weeks.

Do I need to make an appointment?

At Afreen Fashion & Beauty and Nylla Fashion & Beauty we don't take appointments for threading procedures, we work on a first come first served basis. At busy times there may be a 10-15 minute wait but feedback indicates that it's well worth the wait.

Benefits:

Threading has no side effects (if done correctly)

.Results last longer than waxing, average time 3-4 weeks.

Threading only removes hair, not affecting the skin, thereby causing less wrinkles & sagging than waxing!

Great alternative for those on medication or doing laser procedures.

Regular threading sessions results in lesser & finer hair growth!

Unlike High Street salons, (Debenhams, Harvey Nics, House of Fraser, Boots, Superdrug etc) we only charge £5:00 for eyebrow threading

Eyebrow Tinting

Eyebrow tint is a form of semi-permanent dye formulated specifically for use on the eyebrows. There are options to purchase DIY eyebrow tinting kits from most pharmacies and supermarkets, or alternatively you can choose to have your eyebrows tinted at either Afreen Fashion & Beauty in Leith Edinburgh or Nylla Fashion & Beauty in Gorgie Rd, Edinburgh for a more professional look.

One of the main questions asked is "why would I want to tint my eyebrows?"

Eyebrow tinting is a great option in the following circumstances:

1. You have changed your hair colour

Blondes and redheads who dye their hair a darker colour, tint their eyebrows to match the shade of their new style.. However, you should remember that your eyebrows don't necessarily have to match your hair colour precisely. You are generally advised to keep your eyebrows one or two shades lighter or darker than your hair colour.

2. You have noticed grey hairs in your eyebrows

Greying hair is a natural part of getting older. Whereas some people choose to let nature take its course, others prefer to conceal it. Although plucking the odd stray hair from the scalp is fine, plucking hairs from the relatively sparse eyebrow area is likely to produce unsightly bald patches and leave the brow looking misshapen. For this reason, you are advised to avoid the tweezers and opt instead for an eyebrow tint, which simply dyes the grey to match the surrounding hairs.

3. You want thicker looking eyebrows

Pale, translucent hairs can make the eyebrows look thin and straggly. Tinting these hairs could reveal a neat, shapely brow you never even knew was there. Even though the thickness and denseness of your eyebrow hair can of course not be changed in the tinting session alone, the darker colour will make them appear naturally thicker.

4. You want to add definition to your face

It's amazing what a difference a nice pair of shapely eyebrows can make to the structure of the face. Having neat, defined eyebrows frames the eyes, boosts facial symmetry and creates an attractive high-contrast look.

if your unsure regards tinting your eyebrows pop into either Afreen Fashion & Beauty or Nylla Fashion & Beauty for an informal chat and our stylists will be happy to advice you.

Introduction to Threading

Posted on 28th Feb 2013 @ 4:02 PM

Let us introduce you to the ancient method of hair removal – Threading.

Commonly practiced in Asian countries, threading has now become very popular here in the West due to its efficient and longer lasting effects.

Known as Bande Abru (“Abru” means eyebrow, and “Bande” is the thread) in Persian culture, the process is extremely sanitary as nothing but the thread touches the skin and it uses no form of chemicals.

Nialla Latif, the therapist uses a thin cotton thread to twist through the unwanted hair which when pulled plucks the hair at the follicle level. This treatment will last up to 5 weeks. Rather than plucking individual hairs, entire rows of hair can be removed making the process much quicker!

Best Areas for Threading:

Upper Lip: Removes the hair from the upper lip

Chin/Neck: Removes the hair from the chin and neck

Eyebrows: Removes the hair to create a neatened and well suited eyebrow shape for you

Side of Face: Removes the hair along the side burn area

Full Face: Removes all unwanted hair from the face

As the hair is removed from the follicle it is a reasonably long-lasting hair removal technique. Repeat visits are usually after 3-4 weeks as a standard. For women who prefer a more natural beauty regimen threading is a popular choice as there is no use of chemicals (or other products at all!). Depending on skin type we may use an astringent after the threading.

If properly performed then threading will not harm the skin at all and should not leave the skin red or irritated for more than a few minutes after the session.

Does not peel off a layer of skin

Lengthens the time taken for hair to grow back

Skin does not get as red and irritated

Individual hairs can be pulled out

The hair being removed does not need to be as long, but just above the skin

No additional hair will be produced and existing hairs will not get stronger

The finest hairs from the skin surface will be picked up

Skin is left smooth

Threading is an exceptionally quick, convenient and natural way to remove facial hair. The treatment uses a cotton thread which is twisted together to remove hairs from their roots. The technique allows for a more precise definition and shaping of the eyebrows.

Although the eyebrows are the most popular facial area to have threaded, we offer full facial hair removal, including upper lip, chin, cheeks and forehead in our comfortable, private treatment room.

Afreen Fashion & Beauty, Nylla Fashion & Beauty both have highly skilled, professional therapists, with more than 25 years combined experience, who can give you just the eyebrow shape that you want. They are particularly skilled in re-shaping the eyebrows to complement and enhance the facial features and open up the whole face.

How threading compares to other hair removal treatments:

• Quicker than tweezing and better plucking precision

• Longer lasting (4-8 weeks)• Less painful than waxing

• No harmful chemicals or hot wax involved

• The top layer of skin is not removed or damaged

• Precise shaping with a more natural line to the finished eyebrow

• Threading removes large areas of facial hair quickly and effectively without damaging the skin or causing irritation

• Threading has the advantage of removing the fine hair that simply eludes tweezers, providing a flawless skin base for make up.

Threading is the traditional method for facial hair removal and eyebrow shaping practiced in Asia and the Middle East. A delicate procedure, it uses special cotton thread which is twisted and rolled along the surface of the skin to remove individual hairs from their follicle. It gives a clean and precise line with minimal skin irritation. An experienced skilled practitioner is required to perform this treatment effectively.

This method of hair removal is gentler than waxing and less painful than tweezing. It gives lovely, neat, smooth results, and allows a much more precise result than any other form of hair removal. It is also kinder to the more sensitive areas of facial skin. If the eyebrows are required to be shaped, threading is an excellent choice for achieving that perfect, classic eyebrow shape that everyone wants since it allows the practitioner closer access to each hair growth as it is done individually.

Threading is beneficial for people with sensitive skin as it does not cause breakouts, excessive redness or pigmentation like waxing or shaving can. This makes threading the most effective method of hair removal on the face for everyone especially since waxing hair on the face may damage the thin, delicate skin on the face, which inevitably leads to wrinkles in the long term.

Threading is a great method of hair removal for both women and men with excess hair and if done on a regular basis, threading weakens the hair follicle so hair growth becomes less dense over time.

A question that gets asked often at Afreen Fashions Beauty salon regards eyebrow threading is "Does it Hurt??"

The answer is Yes and No !!!!.. (Very Helpful.....Sorry !!)

Everyone is different and each of us has a different pain threshold... (Just ask the guys who come to get their eyebrows threaded ...wink wink) The science behind pain and threading is simple.... once the hair has grown fully into the follicle it is harder to remove thus more painful... if your finding it painful then you may have to come in for your eyebrow or facial threading a little bit sooner... We usually recommend a frequency of 3 to 4 weeks but if you have a high growth rate then 2 to 3 weeks may be better.

Unlike a lot of the high street salons who are charging £15, £17, and even £23 for eyebrow threading, we only charge £4 meaning you can afford to keep your brows looking WOW!!!!

What would you rather be told by your threading assistant....

The truth or a little white lie????

We recently had a client in who was a little upset as Nialla gave her an honest assessment of her eyebrows. If we can't be honest then we can't help you to achieve the look and shape that you require for your eyebrows. The price you pay for going to an inexperienced eyebrow / facial threader is uneven brows, lack of shape and the most common issue... a thin hairline, leaving it difficult to shape the eyebrows.

If you are having issues with your shape or are just unhappy with your eyebrows, pop in to Afreen Fashion & Beauty at 181 Constitution Street, Edinburgh, EH6 7AA for a free consultation..

Nialla will assess your eyebrows and recommend a shape and style that suits your face type and eye shape.

Nialla Latif owner of Afreen Fashion & Beauty, Edinburgh is fast becoming the leading authority on eyebrow threading.

Threading or not Threading?

Nialla tells us the main benefits of eyebrow threading.

"Threading is an eco-friendly form of hair removal which does not require the use of hot waxes or abrasive chemicals. A twisted cotton thread is rolled over the desired hairline, such as the eyebrow, extracting the hair at the follicle.

Unlike tweezing, threading can remove an entire row of hair at one time. Since the hair is removed from the follicle level, hair usually grows back thinner and finer.

It is safe even for the most sensitive of skin types. Minor irritation and/or redness can occur but will usually subside within 10 -15 minutes.

Many find threading to be a much more pleasant experience than traditional methods of hair removal."

With a passion for design and an eye for perfection, you can be assured your eyebrows are in safe hands.
